This etymological study of Slavic languages (Studie k nejstarším romanismům ve slovanských jazycích) by Vít Boček is the most recent publication from an established series of linguistic books by the etymological department of The Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. It is also the first book which adopted the new cover design and page layout.
The redesign is a result of a development within the limits of the series’ constraints (such as given format and materials). The generous layouts count on the complexity of academic texts, great amount of footnotes, and readers who have the urge to make notes while reading. The cover plays with the idea of boustrophedon writing as a reference to antiquity, the age in which everything was said already. For this book an extended custom version of Skolar was developed in six weights. Book design by David Březina.
